DCS Airspace expands its real-time ATC, AWACS and GCI capabilities for DCS World with custom tactical map views, quick track identification, radar line-of-sight calculations, terrain elevation data and improved interface performance.
DCS Airspace, the web-based real-time ATC, AWACS and GCI software client for DCS World, introduces new capabilities for tactical map management, aircraft identification, radar line-of-sight (LOS) analysis and operator workflow efficiency.
This update gives virtual air traffic controllers, AWACS operators and Ground-Controlled Interception (GCI) operators more control over their tactical display, faster track identification and additional tools for analyzing terrain-dependent visibility.
Custom Tactical Map Views
DCS Airspace now allows operators to save and restore custom tactical map views, making it easier to switch between three preferred map configurations during DCS World missions.
Each saved view preserves the following settings:
- Map position and zoom level to restore a specific geographic area.
- Map type to return to the preferred map background.
- Layer visibility and opacity to preserve the tactical display configuration.
- Selected Bullseye to restore the chosen reference point.
- Custom reference point state to retain the operator's configured map references.
Dedicated keyboard shortcuts provide quick access to three custom views:
- Ctrl + F1 / F2 / F3: Load the corresponding saved map view.
- Hold Ctrl + F1 / F2 / F3 for 1 second: Save the current map configuration to the corresponding view.
These custom map views help operators move between predefined tactical areas and display configurations without manually adjusting the map, layers and reference points each time.
Quick Aircraft and Track Identification
New keyboard shortcuts simplify tactical track identification in DCS Airspace:
- F1: Identify as Friendly.
- F2: Identify as Hostile.
- F3: Identify as Unknown.
These shortcuts reduce the steps required to update track identification and support faster workflows for virtual AWACS and GCI operators monitoring live aircraft and other tactical contacts in DCS World.
Radar Line-of-Sight and Terrain Analysis
DCS Airspace expands its line-of-sight calculation capabilities, providing additional ways to analyze visibility between tactical entities and account for terrain in airspace-control scenarios.
New LOS calculations are available for:
- Threats: Analyze line of sight in relation to threat entities.
- Groups Commands: Access LOS calculations for group-related command workflows.
- Free LOS Test: Run a line-of-sight test directly from the map's right-click context menu.
The interface also displays elevation information in the top-right panel, giving operators additional terrain context when assessing radar visibility and potential terrain masking.
Line-of-sight analysis and elevation data are particularly relevant to tactical scenarios in which terrain can affect radar coverage, detection and the visibility of aircraft or ground-based threats.
Redesigned Interface and Performance Improvements
The DCS Airspace map and interface have been redesigned to improve workspace organization and usability.
The Weather and General Info sections have been moved into smaller, draggable panels, allowing operators to position this information more flexibly around their tactical display.
Additional performance improvements include:
- Smoother map interaction and pointer movement.
- Improved hover responsiveness.
- Reduced lag during BRAA operations.
- Updated OpenLayers to version 10.10.0.
These changes improve the responsiveness of the tactical display and help maintain a more efficient workflow during real-time airspace control.
DCS Airspace for DCS World
DCS Airspace is a web-based real-time ATC, AWACS and GCI software client developed as part of the Combined Ops suite for DCS World. It provides a tactical radar and airspace-control workstation for virtual squadrons, supporting live track monitoring, aircraft identification, BULLSEYE and BRAA procedures, tactical map management and airspace-control operations.
With custom map views, faster track identification, expanded line-of-sight analysis and a more responsive interface, this update further develops DCS Airspace for virtual air traffic control, airborne early warning and ground-controlled interception scenarios.
