Two new server-side options give squadron administrators greater control over station selection and SRS line-of-sight realism in DCS Airspace, helping enforce more realistic communications and controller positioning.
DCS Airspace Adds Station Selection and Position Restrictions
DCS Airspace introduces two new server-side configuration options that allow server administrators to enforce more realistic station selection and communications constraints: Allow No Position Stations and Allow In Map Position Change.
These settings give virtual squadrons greater control over how controllers access air traffic control, AWACS and GCI stations, helping align the workstation's behaviour with the operational rules of their DCS World multiplayer environment.
Allow No Position Stations
The initial station selection panel, displayed before entering the map, allows controllers to choose the agency they will operate from. Available stations can include airbases, airborne AWACS platforms, aircraft carriers and other agencies configured by AOC staff through the Communications Plan (Commplan).
Not every agency has a physical position in the simulation. Some Commplan entries represent communication services defined by the staff, with their own frequencies, agency types and callsigns, but without a corresponding geographic location in the DCS World mission.
The Allow No Position Stations option lets server administrators decide whether controllers may select these agencies when entering DCS Airspace. When disabled, station selection is restricted to agencies with a real position in the simulation, such as airbases, airborne AWACS aircraft and aircraft carriers. This helps ensure that SRS communications LOS is calculated using a meaningful geographic position.
Allow In Map Position Change
The second option controls whether controllers can change their selected agency directly from the map after entering DCS Airspace.
Changing agencies can also change the geographic position associated with the controller's SRS communications. For example, a controller operating from an airbase could lose radio line of sight to an aircraft and then switch to another station with a more favourable position, bypassing the original communications limitation.
The Allow In Map Position Change option allows administrators to prevent this behaviour. When disabled, controllers cannot switch agencies from within the map, keeping their selected station and associated communications position fixed for the duration of their session.
This restriction supports more realistic communications procedures by preventing controllers from circumventing LOS limitations simply by changing stations.
Server-Side Realism Configuration
These two options complement the existing DCS Airspace server-side settings, which allow the squadron operating a server to define its own realism rules and access conditions.
Administrators can configure station selection and map interaction alongside other operational settings, including aircraft identification behaviour and IFF realism. Depending on the selected identification mode, DCS Airspace can use simplified identification based on DCS World data or advanced IFF-based identification, including Mode 4 authentication and Mode 3 transponder code correlation with the Air Tasking Order (ATO) and Mode S.
Together, these configurable settings allow each virtual squadron to tailor DCS Airspace to its operational procedures, from more accessible training environments to more restrictive and realistic ATC, AWACS and GCI operations.
