Precision Planning Update: Radar LOS & Tactical BRAA Overhaul
I’m excited to share the latest series of updates I’ve been working on. This release is all about deeper simulator consistency and refined tactical awareness for all the Combined Ops Tools.
The Main Event: Precise Radar LOS Calculation
The highlight of this update is the new high-fidelity Line of Sight (LOS) calculation tool for Air Defense Systems in DCS AOC Tools and DCS Mission Planner.
To ensure 100% consistency with your missions, I have integrated SRTM1 elevation data extracted directly from DCS World. This means that when you are planning your approach, the "radar shadows" and terrain masking you see in the tool will match exactly what the SAM operators see in-game.
DCS Airspace: New BRAA Mode & Measurement Overhaul
I’ve completely revamped how you interact with the map during high-intensity tactical operations:
-
Tactical BRAA Mode: Using the new shortcut (Ctrl + Alt + Mouse), the measurement tool now functions as a dynamic BRAA calculator. When hovering over an air unit, the tool instantly displays Bearing, Range, Altitude, and Aspect Angle (which can be displayed as a numerical value or as a brevity word), with values rounded for quick communication, showing the full BRAA from the origin point whenever the cursor overlaps a radar track.
-
Enhanced Map Control: I’ve enabled map panning while measuring and restricted measurements to single segments in BRAA mode to keep the interface clean and focused.
-
Unit Filtering: You can now filter air units by category (e.g., Attack, Fighter), allowing you to declutter the airspace and focus only on relevant threats.
General Improvements & Bug Fixes
Beyond the radar LOS and BRAA Mode, I’ve implemented several "quality of life" enhancements and technical improvements across all three tools. These updates address various bugs and refine the overall user experience to ensure everything runs smoothly during your mission planning.
